Every time I get asked why I went into dental hygiene; I always give the same standard answer "to help people". I never really thought deeply about it until now that I started practicing it.

One of the reasons why I chose hygiene and why I think I’m making the world better is that every day I'm given the opportunity to treat people with empathy and caring and create a connection with each person. I love being able to teach my patients how to take better care of themselves, educate them about how their oral health can affect their overall health and most importantly make them feel good about it; nevertheless, getting to make them feel comfortable and cared when they show up very anxious to their appointments.

There is nothing more exciting than a patient coming in for their continued care appointments and being able to measure their improvement. On the other hand, if they haven’t improved or if it’s getting worse, I still feel fulfilled when I keep teaching them or finding the best way to help them improve themselves.
